It is a CAD (Computer Aided Detection) medical device which provides support in colon-rectal cancer diagnoses. The platform was conceived for the analysis of Virtual Colonoscopy exams on CT scans
CAD COLON im3D can assist the Radiologist in his/her clinical activity by increasing diagnostic accuracy and reducing reading time. CAD COLON can also be used as a learning tool for the less experienced Radiologist.
CAD COLON im3D is also the chosen support for the world’s first trial screening based on the use of CAD as a potentially primary reader in colon-rectal cancer screening.
The Protéus Project was approved at the end of 2008 and is currently active in the Piedmont and Veneto Regions on a total population of 26,000 asymptomatic medium risk patients.
With the recording of the Regions of Interest (ROI), CAD COLON is an ideal tool for follow-ups because it allows a comparison of exams made at different stages.
The CAD COLON diagnostic system is a high speed Oncology Workstation (RADIUS) that guarantees calculus power and large volume image elaboration on a large high definition flat panel screen. This enables the operator to have a full vision of the patient, who is viewed in both the prone and supine positions contemporaneously, thus allowing cross checks for problem solving.

  • CAD function (Show image)

    CAD function for automatic identification of suspected polyps. CAD COLON is capable of reducing the read time and improving the diagnostic performance of the Radiologist, by clearly indicating suspect lesions and their position.

  • Electronic subtraction (Show image)

    The user can clean the colon electronically if the exam was carried out using Faecal Tagging: the system recognizes and automatically eliminates all faecal residue and marked liquids in all projections.

  • Regions of Interest indicated by CAD COLON and manually (Show image)

    This command leads to the graphical deletion from all the views of the automatic and manual markings which, nevertheless, remain indicated in the list of candidates.

  • Contemporary visualization of prone and supine positions (Show image)

    The screen shows a symmetrical division of the information on the images obtained with patients in the prone position and in the supine position: the graphical interface therefore makes it possible to view the patient’s Cts simultaneously in the prone and supine positions.

  • Trivial co-registration (Show image)

    Co-registration mode allows the user to simultaneously scroll the slices in the prone and supine acquisitions and in all the 2D views: axial, coronal and sagittal.
    When the Radiologist activate this mode, he can simultaneously update both the 2D and 3D views of the prone and supine position during virtual navigation along the lumen of the colon.

  • Measurement on 2D and 3D view (Show image)

    The user can measure a particular lesion by activating the associated function in various ways and in various stages ofthe clinical exam. The user can activate the Measurement function from the main Menu or also in the data registration stage.

  • Navigation speed control and Field View/Angle control (Show image)

    The user can launch virtual navigation along the lumen of the colon in the internal 3D views.
    The user can reduce speed and to increase it by moving a cursor.
    A bar allows the user to vary the viewing angle

  • Segment ordering (Show image)

    Segment order function makes it possible to check the order of the segments of the colon to explore, and to eliminate the parts of the intestine they do not want to examine.

  • Flexible graphic user interface (GUI) lay-out (Show image)

    The selection of exams and their management is made on the Worklist. It is possible to search, visualize, load or eliminate the exams available on the Worklist.
